Catalysts and adsorbents
for gas processing

Gas processing is an essential industrial application that involves purifying natural gas, biogas, hydrocarbons or other fuels by removing various contaminants. Raw gas streams extracted from reservoirs contain impurities such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), carbonyl sulfide (COS), mercaptans (RSH), elemental mercury (Hg), and other compounds that are harmful to the environment, processing equipment, downstream catalysts, and end-users. Through specialized purification techniques, these contaminants are removed to meet stringent quality specifications and ensure the safe and efficient use of natural gas across various applications.

Clariant's Catalyst and Adsorbent Solutions

Clariant offers a comprehensive portfolio of high-performance catalysts and adsorbents designed specifically for gas processing applications. Our ActiSorb GP series of innovative solutions effectively removes various contaminants from gas streams ensuring compliance with industry standards while protecting valuable equipment and the environment.

Applications

Clariant's gas purification solutions are engineered for a wide range of applications:
  • Traditional Natural Gas Processing Plants
Our catalysts and adsorbents ensure efficient removal of contaminants in onshore processing facilities, delivering clean gas that meets stringent specifications.

  • Offshore Gas Processing
Specially designed solutions within the ActiSorb GP series address the unique challenges of FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) and FLNG (Floating LNG) operations, where space constraints and operational efficiency and safety are critical.

  • LNG Production
Clariant's ActiSorb GP series offers adsorbent solutions for H₂S, COS, and light mercaptans removal from both natural gas and CO₂ streams. Furthermore, our mercury removal products protect cryogenic equipment from corrosion in LNG applications by reducing mercury levels to < 0.01 µg/Nm³, preventing amalgamation and corrosion.

  • Natural gas deodorization
Our HyProGen 120 series removes THT and TBM from gas streams in deodorization plants.

Contaminant Removal Capabilities

Clariant's ActiSorb GP series effectively addresses a comprehensive range of natural gas contaminants:
  • Organic and Inorganic Sulfur Compounds: Our iron and copper-based adsorbents remove H₂S to levels below 0.1 ppmv depending on the operating conditions
  • Carbonyl Sulfide (COS): Effectively removed by our copper-based adsorbents
  • Light Mercaptans: Efficiently captured by our specialized adsorbent formulations
  • Mercury: Reduced to trace levels to protect equipment and meet environmental standards
  • Arsine: High-performance adsorbents for arsine-contaminated gas or liquid phase hydrocarbon streams.

Our Product Range

Clariant's ActiSorb GP series offers a wide range of specialized catalysts and adsorbents with unique characteristics for tailored solutions to address various operating conditions and requirements.
These solutions are mainly copper- or iron-based.

ActiSorb™ GP 101
ActiSorb™ GP 101 is a sulfur adsorbent used for purification of hydrocarbon gas streams containing hydrogen sulfide. It is formed from high-grade iron oxide by a proprietary process that creates a high surface area. It is ideal for H2S removal in biogas, natural gas, and streams high in CO and CO2.
ActiSorb™ GP 102
ActiSorb™ GP 102 is a non-regenerable product for sulfur removal in hydrocarbon gas streams. The iron oxide material is engineered for specific pore size distribution to incorporate micro, meso, and macropores in an open structure that chemically bonds with sulfur and can have a pick-up capacity near theoretical limits that allow for longer cycle lengths and favorable cost of ownership. This results in a high removal capacity, which significantly improves processing cost efficiency. ActiSorb™ GP 102 delivers this high performance at ambient temperatures, which helps keep energy costs low.
ActiSorb™ GP 405
ActiSorb™ GP 405 is an advanced mixed-metal adsorbent for the removal of elemental mercury from gas streams such as natural gas. Due to its high capacity for mercury, the adsorbent helps to lower operating costs and extend cycle lengths. Various options are available, all offering low pressure drop.
