Clariant Oil Services Applies Low Emulsifying Corrosion Inhibitor in Gas Lines

Benefits
  • Maintained corrosion control through injection of CORRTREAT 702
  • CORRTREAT 702 did not cause emulsion problem in production system
  • Oil in water specification met

Background

Gas is produced from three normally unmanned platforms. The gas flows from these three satellite platforms via an interfield flow line to the central platform for processing. Gas production ranged from 15 to 90 mmscf/day across three platforms. Water volumes produced from the three platforms averaged 19 m3/day with OIW values of between 100 to 200 ppm.

Normal Wellhead 30°C to 40°C
Normal Flowline Pressure 20 to 40 bar
Total Fluids Production 15 to 25 m3/d
Water/Condensate ratio 1:1
Total Gas Production Rate 120 to 200 mmscf/d
Gas CO2 content  1 mol % CO2
Brine TDS 22 g/l

Clariant Oil Services Solutions and Value Delivered

Following laboratory evaluation under field conditions, CORRTREAT 702 was selected as a suitable corrosion inhibitor. CORRTREAT 702 is a strong film forming inhibitor designed for corrosion inhibition in oil and gas production systems. It is a blend of partially neutralized amines and volatile amines in an aqueous based solvent system for atomization into a gas stream or by continuous injection into oil production flowlines. The products’ active ingredients are stable at elevated wellhead temperatures and have very low emulsifying tendencies.

The main reason CORRTREAT 702 was selected for use was the product’s non-emulsifying tendencies, which ensured oil in water levels of the discharged water remained at a minimum. This ensured production could be maintained and reduced reporting of high oil in water discharges to the authorities.
