Prairie Petro Chems Multifunctional Dispersant Delivers Excellent Performance
Benefits
- Increase in total crude oil flow
- Effective removal of wax and asphaltene deposits
- Halting of all hot oil treatment for five straight months
- Continuous injection deployment
- Cost savings
Background
A field operating within Southeast Saskatchewan experienced loss of production due to high pressure alarms in the summer. Hot oiling was required every two weeks on a 600-meter flowline due to wax and asphaltene deposition in the flowline. The operator requested a chemical mitigation strategy to decrease the hot oil treatments.
Upon investigation, the following conditions were found:
- Bi-weekly hot oil treatments cost $2,000 CAD per session
- Clean line is gauged at 25 psi and 150 psi alarms require hot oil
- Production is 2 m3 oil and 14 m3 per day
Prairie Petro-Chem Solutions and Value Delivered
At the request of the operator, Prairie Petro-Chem was invited to assist with efficiency improvements that would reduce the expensive hot oil treatments, increase productivity and reduce the pressure of the flowline.
Field laboratory tests were conducted at the research and development lab in Estevan, SK, to investigate multifunctional wax and asphaltene dispersants and, based on superior performance, Prairie Petro-Chem’s WD-2002 was selected.
WD-2002 was deployed as a continuous injection down the flowline at a treatment rate of 1000 ppm/v (1L/1m³). The operator began injection after a final hot oil treatment, which resulted in 25 psi flowline pressure. After a five-month period, the flowline has not increased in pressure, thus negating the need for any subsequent hot oil treatments.
This strategy has saved the company $20,000 CAD in five months by eliminating the need for further hot oil applications.
