Background

An operator in the Gulf of Mexico was experiencing high corrosion rates in a gas gathering pipeline. This pipeline was a very wet line with high corrosion tendencies and was pigged weekly.

Clariant Oil Services Solutions and Value Delivered

Clariant Oil Services selected a water soluble, slightly oil dispersible corrosion inhibitor from the CORRTREAT product range. This CORRTREAT product is extremely film persistent and performs very well in high velocity / high shear environments. It partitions and concentrates in the water phase providing excellent protection at the source of the corrosion problem.

The corrosion inhibitor was injected into each gathering line at a rate of 1 pint per mmscf. Clariant Oil Services has treated this location for 15 years with no incidence of pipeline failure.
