  • Among leading companies in the global chemical sector
  • Company’s sustainability organization undergoing transformation to further enhance its impact

Muttenz, November 16, 2020 – Clariant, a focused, sustainable and innovative specialty chemical company, today announced that the company was listed in the 2020 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), thanks to its outstanding innovation score and strong performance across the board. This marks the 8th consecutive year that Clariant is listed as one of the most sustainable companies in the global chemical sector. Clariant was ranked among the top companies in the chemical sector in both the DJSI Europe and the DJSI World.

“To see Clariant being listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the 8th consecutive year continues to serve as a source of both pride and motivation. Sustainability is one of Clariant’s five strategic pillars and guides the path of our transformation into a leading specialty chemicals company, with passionate people, leading edge operations and innovative solutions,” said Hariolf Kottmann, Executive Chairman ad interim of Clariant.

For Clariant, innovative solutions are key for its sustainability performance. Therefore, since 2015, Clariant has consistently scored well in the innovation chapter of the DJSI and for the past two years even led this part of the ranking. Clariant not only spends more than 3% of group sales on R&D but has also clearly anchored sustainability in the innovation process. In 2019, this led to 3.5% of the company’s continuing operations sales growth being attributable to innovative products developed in the last five years, including sustainable solutions such as the sunliquid® technology platform for cellulosic sugars and cellulosic ethanol, the renewable additive solutions Licocare® RBW Vita and many more.

Richard Haldimann, Clariant’s Head of Sustainability Transformation, said: “The DJSI scoring reconfirms our ambition of leading through sustainability and innovation. To enhance our ability to achieve this goal, Clariant recently established a Sustainability Transformation organization to further drive sustainability integration throughout the entire company. Furthermore, by collaborating even closer with customers and other stakeholders across the entire value chain, we strive to make Clariant part of the solution for a sustainable future, addressing climate change and moving towards a circular economy.”
