Industrial oxidation catalysts are essential to modern chemical manufacturing worldwide, enabling efficient production of materials that power industries across North America, Europe, Asia, and beyond. From polymer production and resin manufacturing to textile processing and specialty coatings, selective oxidation catalysts transform raw feedstocks into high-value products while advancing process efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Engineered for maximum performance

With over 60 years of expertise and a portfolio spanning the word’s most critical oxidation processes, Clariant delivers proven catalyst solutions tailored to your specific process requirements—whether you're producing formaldehyde (FA), vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), acrylonitrile (AN), maleic anhydride (MA), ethylene dichloride, or industrial alcohols.

Clariant's oxidation catalyst portfolio—including FAMAX™ FA catalysts, VAMax™ VAM catalysts, AcryloMax™ AN catalysts, and SynDane™ MA catalysts—is engineered to maximize chemical yields, enhance selectivity, and minimize environmental footprint. By optimizing reaction conditions in fixed-bed reactors, fluidized-bed reactors, and tubular reactor systems, our catalysts enable industries globally to achieve:

  • Higher productivity with reduced energy consumption
  • Superior selectivity with fewer unwanted by-products
  • Lower operating costs through optimized process efficiency
  • Reduced environmental impact across all oxidation applications

  • SynDane™ Series
SynDane™ catalysts enable cost-efficient production of maleic anhydride via partial oxidation of n-butane in fixed-bed tubular reactors. Their superior yield and selectivity greatly reduce by-product formation and downstream polymerization, thus minimizing downtime of maleic anhydride plants.
    more
  • FAMAX™ Series
FAMAX™ catalysts are used for partial oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde in fixed-bed tubular reactors. A broad portfolio of different catalyst types and shapes offer optimum solutions for all plant technologies and operating conditions. FAMAX catalysts are designed with a multi-layer approach tailored to the individual plant conditions. This ensures optimal catalyst activity and maximizes production performance and lifetime of the catalyst.

  • VAMax™ Series
The VAMax™ series of selective oxidation catalysts offers high activity for Vinyl-Acetate Monomer (VAM) producers. VAM is produced by reacting ethylene and acetic acid with oxygen (oxy-acetylation) in the presence of a catalyst. It is an essential building block for various polymer and co-polymer derivatives.
    more
  • AcryloMax™
AcryloMax™ allows more profitable and efficient production of acrylonitrile (AN), which is an important intermediate in the value chain of plastics and synthetic fibers for the automotive and textile industries. AN is produced from propylene, ammonia and air in contact with a catalyst. The AcryloMax catalyst enables synthesis of acrylonitrile via ammoxidation of propylene in a fluidized bed reactor. Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is also generated as a valuable side product.

Redefining efficiency in Maleic Anhydride production

Clariant's SynDane® 500 Series delivers a fundamental leap forward in selective oxidation catalyst technology for the partial oxidation of n-butane in fixed-bed tubular reactors. Three breakthrough improvements define it:

  • Enhanced mechanical stability — High-precision catalyst loading, protecting reactor integrity from day one.
  • Up to 3 points of MA selectivity — Directly elevates crude MA quality and reduces by-product formation.
  • Increased space-time yields — Higher productivity per reactor volume, lowering cost per ton of MA produced.

Developed through advanced modeling and novel promoters, the SynDane® 500 Series sets a new industry benchmark — not an incremental update, but a redefinition of what MA producers can expect.
